Matthew B McCune

Matthew B. McCune joined Magleby Cataxinos & Greenwood ("MCG") in 2016.  Matt’s practice focuses on complex commercial litigation, complex tort (injury) litigation, real property litigation, and business transactions.  Since November of 2017, he has led MCG’s representation of eighteen counties in Utah and two counties in Idaho in the opioid litigation.

Matt is adept both at litigating cases and, where appropriate, resolving conflicts through alternative dispute resolution, such as settlement or mediation.  Examples of the latter include an eve-of-trial settlement between a Fortune 500 company and its franchisee; settlement of numerous personal injury cases; and negotiated resolution of many business disputes.  Matt’s practice also includes negotiation, drafting, and revision of contracts, business agreements, and commercial leases.

Before beginning a career in law, Matt gained extensive business experience working for over a decade in the highly-regulated financial services industry, where he oversaw all aspects of marketing, including brand management, social media, trade shows, web and print marketing, and video production.
Matt earned his undergraduate degree in marketing and management from the University of Nebraska and his law degree from the J. Reuben Clark Law School of Brigham Young University. During law school, Matt successfully participated in numerous trial and oral advocacy competitions, finishing as champion, finalist, or semifinalist in each competition; worked as teaching assistant in Legal Research and Writing; was president of the BYU chapter of The Federalist Society for Law and Public Policy Studies; and spent extensive time as a law clerk and extern, working in private practice, criminal prosecution, and at the Utah State Court in Provo with Judges Pullan and McDade.
